A bible study started at the Oleksiw family home in Winsted, CT in 2002 as a mid week fellowship and "walk through the Bible" Bible study. In 2005, the study had grown to a fellowship that included worship music and Lord's Supper. The mid-week study grew into a full fellowship meal offering open to the public to learn about the Christian life and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Oleksiws, in 2007-2008, were also involved in offering mid and end-of-week contemporary worship services to other congregations. An open outdoor Christian concert, called Praise God Fest, grew out of Michael Oleksiw's call to preach Jesus outside the church building. Form an outside church picnic started in 2005 Praise God Fest is now an annual summer Christian Festival.
In 2008, Michael Oleksiw, his wife Theresa , Pastor Joel Rissinger of Millpond Church in Newington, CT, and his wife Karen, prayed and felt God's leading to pull the different ministries together into one unified community ministry. Pastor Joel put Michael through a leadership training program with Antioch School of Ministry.
In 2009, Freedom Hills Christian Center (FHCC) was launched as a worship site of Mill Pond Church.
In 2010, Michael was ordained as an elder and minister in Mill Pond Church and with the Baptist General Conference / Converge Northeast affiliation. Pastor Joel of Mill Pond church mentored Michael and helped him develop Freedom Hills into a church plant.
In May of 2012 FHCC became an independent church.
